New Year- My 11 in '11

Just 12 months ago I posted a blog about my 2010 goals. I actually managed to accomplish a lot some of them. Ok if I'm being honest, I did like 5 of them. Oh well. At least I tried right?! I also managed to do one of the most broken new years resolutions pretty well (the weight thing). So this year I decided to take a different approach. We had a YW lesson a few weeks ago about resolutions and the idea was thrown out of just choosing one word to work on. I gotta say, already looking at this list looks a lot less intimdating than that crazy list from last year where I got very specific. I like not being specific. So without further ado, my "resolutions/goals" for 2011:

That is all. I think I can do it. Have a great new year, stay safe, stay classy and, stay simple.

Things I don't believe in

For Christmas I got a book, one that I've wanted for awhile. Go here to see more info. and read about "Gravy Days". Finished!

I managed to complete some of these projects I had posted about earlier. That's kind of exciting. I still have lots to do between now and Christmas but hopefully it will go smoothly!

So remember that big pile of paper? This is what I made with it:
a paper wreath. it didn't turn out quite how I had imagined but oh well. All togther the project cost me $3 bucks. I got the book for free, I already had the ribbon, the only thing that cost money was the foam wreath form. Kind of different? My fingers are burned a little bit though from the hot glue gun. There were several times when I thought I'd just toss the whole project but I'm glad I didn't.

a closer up photo.
last night we got a BUNCH of Christmas mail, which is always my favorite thing to look at. My parents couldn't decide what to do with them so I just cut some ribbon and hung it up and used mini clothes pins to hang them up. Looks like we'll need another one though it's a little small. It's fun to get all these cards and realize that most of the photos look familiar...hmmm maybe because I took most of them ;). haha

my lame tea-cup candles. the wicks i bought were too short for my cuter tea cups so I ended up using the smaller, not as cute cups. I just melted down some partially used candlesticks, took out the used wicks and poured it into the cups. easy. i did buy vanilla scenting stuff.

speaking of candles. I had also bought all these candles and I decided I didn't like the labels so I made my own. (Sorry for the terrible photo, I have no patience right now after that wreath).

a little closer look. i just used bits and pieces of scrap paper, book pages (hmm!), scrapes of fabric and cardboard that I crimped. easy, good way to use a bunch of scrap stuff.

UGH Now I guess I'd better clean up my MESS, order santa photos from our ward party last week, make little tags for our nursery gift we are making, finish our gift to the young women in our ward and maybe take a shower and eat eventually too. Oh also order our tickets to go see the Wutcracker! Should be fun.

A homemade Christmas?

This year I tried to make it a goal to make some of my Christmas gifts...however...something is all funky with my hands and whenever I try to knit/crochet shooting pains go up my arms, therefore...only a few handmade items made the cut. Then I realized that I don't have to knit or crochet for my gifts to be homemade (DUH!) so let me take you on a photo journey of my piles of projects!

What to do with a stack of crumbled distressed old book pages? This project is in progress and might require one quick trip to the craft store if I can't find what I need soon!
This is a little wreath I made yesterday an hour before I had to go to work. I just cut out a bunch of stars with my CRICUT, scored them and folded them to be 3-D and glued them on to a piece of cardboard I had cut out to look like a wreath.
I used some old fabric scraps and braided them with some polka dot ribbon to make the hanging thing.

Here are some of the stars not attached to anything. They are super easy. If anyone wants to know how I made them just leave a comment and I'll put a post up about them. They are way fun and simple. I think they would make cute decorations for a tree too if you just put some ribbon on the back.

Here's one of the crocheted projects I managed to do. It's a blanket for my dad. It's not quite done but that's the beauty of crochet, I can wrap it up and give it to him and still work on it after he opens it. I want to add just a few more rows but I'm not gonna have time to finish between now and next Saturday!

This is a "homemade" gift for my aunt. I chose her name this year for our Christmas gift exchange. So while I was in Utah this summer my sly uncle took my brother and I to Manti so I could take photos of my favorite temple. Then I decided since that's where they got married I would make her a personalized picture. Now I just have to send it before it's too late ;).

This is another work in progress. Just a tea cup I found at an antique shop in Lynden a few weeks ago. I'll be filling it with some candle-ing goodness to make a teacup candle. I just have to find some wicks at the store and maybe a few clearance candles to melt down and re-purpose.

Perhaps the most exciting thing to happen to me this last week was I purchased an early Christmas gift to myself! It's the 27in iMac. It's large, it's in charge and it completely befuddles me. I also purchased photoshop for it but am having troubles getting the licensing stuff to work so I haven't even used it for my photography yet which is really sad. I like it so far, it's hard because I've never used a mac (except for elementary school when we had those green dinosaurs) so it's a different platform that what I'm used to and it's taking awhile to get comfortable with it.

This is definitely NOT homemade...hahaha. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it eventually and do great things with it!

More photos of projects after they get completed....I mean IF they get completed. Busy busy busy.

Let's Talk about Apps Man

I have many apps on my ipod. Lots that I don't use often and others that I use maybe tooo much ;). Since I'm waiting for some almond roca I just made to cool I thought I'd bore anyone who cares with some fun apps everyone should try! ALRIGHT!

this first one is a knit/crochet counter so you can keep track of what line you are on in your pattern. it's legit.
pyramid. I used to play this game as a kid so whenever I play it it's kind of like a time warp. I don't play it too often but it's a nice and quick game.

SHAZAM! Best one ever....well if you're a music lover. it allows you to put your speaker up to any song that's playing and it will tell you what song it is and who sings it. it conveniently also takes you to itunes if you choose...sneaky sneaky.
shop savvy. Ya just take a pic of a barcode on any product in any store and it will tell you the cheapest place to get said item. perfect for the cheap-o's frugal folks like myself

talking tom. you speak to him and he repeats anything and everything back in a high pitched voice. you can also pet him and knock him out....totally childish really funny.

no need for a kindle if you have an ipod/iphone/ipad. you download the free kindle app and voila! you do have to buy the books OR you can find blogs that have free ones all the time and not pay one cent...guess which option I choose? if you said free you are correct!
do not, i repeat, do NOT download this app. they have a free lite version or the full version for 2 bucks. SERIOUSLY. if you want to be content in your life do not download this game! ahhhhh I bet it's called angry birds because it makes me so frustrated that I can't beat it all the time! haha I'll let you download it if you wanna try it.
and last but not least my new favorite FREE app!! It's called instagram and it allows you to take photos and edit them with one click with edits similar to those in photoshop ;). you can then post it instantly to facebook or twitter...not that i'm condoning twitter AT ALL.

Pretty much all my apps are free. There are so many free apps I don't even have time to look at, why pay money? The ones that do cost money are angry birds (which my brother bought so to me it's free) and we might have had to pay for shazam! but i'm not sure, I didn't buy that one either.

so well. thanks for reading. if anyone did at all. i just love apps. and christmas music.

If you want to hear a good song here ya go:

Eh I tried

I have stopped this blog challenge, I just haven't been feeling good as of late and don't really want to blog about nothing so I'll be done. This post will be my, make before Christmas post! YIPPY!! Ha riiiight. If i can't even blog once a day how in the heck am I supposed to make all this junk?!

BTW, thanks a lot Martha Stewart, I didn't even mean to go to your dumb, inspiring, insane website anyways....

Knit Cowl- so I actually just knitted a cowl last week but compared to this one it's LAME-OO. AND it's called the Dobbs cowl...awwww Dobby! WHY?!!!! I have a bone to pick with you JK Rowling!

Bath Fizzies- I just kind of want this as a gift to myself ;) soooo selfish

Baby Mobile- my aunt has a baby girl, Alexa Summer who will be borned soon so this might be a good shower gift along with the little blanket I'm making...

Body Scrub- now I'm fairly certain I'm a sucker for packaging because if this was in a ziplock bag I probably wouldn't have bookmarked it..well maybe I would have it seems pretty easy...

Lip Balm- again it's all about the packaging baby!

Rosette Scarf- Now I'm not certain I need to make this scarf but i do NEED the rosette tool...hmmm

Tea Candles- seriously?! are you kidding? yes please!

Towl Puppets- These are just kind of a cute idea. prolly won't ever make them but I can dream.

So this list is really for my information so I can keep a list of projects I want to try and maybe if I post about them it will encourage me to actually do something about it!

So again, thanks a lot Martha Stewart...

ok off to take my milk of magnesia...or whatever that stuff is that's supposed to help me sleep...OH I Just googled that, I am not constipated...oh gosh that's awkward, whatever I'm taking starts with an M....hahaha wooops. Maybe Marsupial? I have no idea. I need to sleep ASAP.

Day #23- 15 things

This blog challenge is ALMOST over!! I've done pretty good with not skipping tooo much. Today I'm told to tell you 15 random things about myself, here they are in no particular order:

1. I woke up at 3am to shop this morning- it IS black Friday after all. I saved about $135 (still might go back in for a few things but haven't decided yet)

2. I am currently making Tom Ka Pug ala Turkey for a ward Thanksgiving leftovers dinner

3. My hair's a hot mess right about now. haven't even brushed it today, maybe I should be doing that instead of blogging since I have to go soon...

4. I HATE GLEE

5. I am a control freak

6. I am left handed and double jointed. basically I'm a freak of nature ;)

7. I hate odd numbers and tomatoes

8. I love the season we are in right now. It's my favorite time of the year

9. I'm almost done Christmas shopping and I may have spent more than I needed/wanted to

10. I'm pretty sure I have arthritis from my knitting/crocheting. my fingers/hands hurt real bad and start spazzing randomly.

11. I strongly dislike when someone calls me sista or sister and says made up words (says is looking like a really weird word to me right now...is it right?!)

12. I really need to be done with this list so I can get ready to go

13. If I had to choose one sandwich shop for the rest of my life it would be Port of Subs...

14. I dislike blow drying my hair

15. I like hand sanitizer.

that is all.

Thanksgivingdaivid

We take a break from our regularly scheduled programing to talk about Thanksgiving! YAHOO! It's probably one of my favorite holidays (besides Halloween) because it means the Christmas season is here and that mean Christmas music and trees and decorating etc...I just love this time of year. This year was no different, Wednesday night we had dinner at round table pizza with "the families" like always. We had some great entertainment provided by Miss. Reagan. =) she knows how to work a crowd.

this was outside our window this morning:
really?! i like the snow but not this early and not when i have to drive places!! yikes. and Ty's in Chile enjoying a 2nd summer jealous!
I made it my project to be in charge of the turkey this year. I never realized what a big deal it was and how much work it is. my hands are raw from soap and bleaching everything, I'm so paranoid about cross contamination! So I took some help from one Alton Brown and brined the heck outta the turkey. I just used some stock, salt, peppercorns, orange peel and ice water then let it brine overnight in the fridge. then this morning i rinsed it all out (sick) and patted it dry. Made some aromatics with apple, onion, rosemary and cinnamon. Filled up the cavity with those items and brushed it with butter then baked it and basted it several times through out 3.5 hours. It got a little browner than I thought it would but it made the skin kind of crispy (i hate the skin though, never have liked it).  and this was the finished product:
i have to say for my first turkey ever it was pretty good. the flavor wasn't as intense as i would have liked but it was pretty juicy. I also made a stuffing like quinoa because i hate stuffing. I just made up a recipe and used 4.5 cups of broth/water and 1.5 cups quinoa. half an onion, dried basil, rosemary, toasted pecans and crasins. I loved it. I got seconds of it but couldn't finish because i was far too full.
we had our neighbors and tracy over for our lunch/dinner. it was a mad house for awhile but it all worked out. it was surprisingly less stressful than it has been in years past so that's good.

so tomorrow is black friday. we did go to walgreens and michaels tonight which wasn't as crazy as i thought it would be, i have never shopped on thanksgiving day before and probably won't again. but tomorrow, i'm debating what i want to do. People started lining up here at 2:30 this afternoon for stores that don't open until 5AM!!!!!! yiiikes. that's dedication but i think i'd rather pay an extra bit of money and not have to wait outside in the snow. so i might brave the crowds tomorrow to go to old navy and a few places but we'll see it might just be better to sleep in and avoid all the crazies and the icy streets!

Day #20 & #21

I skipped yesterday which was supposed to be to explain my blog name but that's dumb, i hate my blog name so I skipped it. So today I'm supposed to post a picture of something that makes me happy. This picture makes me happy. I finally saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1. AMAZING. minus the unnecessary and very strange part involving Arry and Hermione....I don't even need to explain it because those who've seen it know what I'm talking about, AWKWARD. and unnecessary. BUT it wasn't as bad as I had heard people make it out to be so I was grateful that it only lasted a few seconds...

LOVED IT. can't wait for part dos!

Day #19 Photo

Another photo of myself was on the menu for this blog challenge. So here it is. They didn't say it had to be recent. But I'm fairly certain I still make that same scowl so it's like looking at a current photo...except for the white-blonde side pony, HUGE grandma glasses, floral/lace/puffy sleeve dress, obnoxious purple watch (not sure why I wore it, I still can't tell time on those stupid things), stick on earrings, and 90's hair tie.

Man I was STYLIN'...still am if I do say so myself...haha ya riiiight.

This is my "get out the way or else" face.

Day #18 Craving

PEANUT BUTTER BALLS!!!!! I am obsessed with them. Especially since starting this diet I'm all about them. The above photo is from google, mine look a little different but they aren't covered in chocolate so it was close enough.

Recipe:

1 C crunchy peanut butter (Adams is best ;))
1/2 C dehydrated milk
1/4-1/2 C agave or honey
rasins
sunflower seeds
chocolate chips (optional)

This is just a throw it together see if it looks right recipe. I usually don't measure very accurately (or at all). Sometimes I like them smoother and don't add the sunflower seeds but I always add raisins, they are the best part of the whole dang thing. They are pretty high caloried so on the days i make them I pretty much eat my weight in peanut butter...it's gross.  I just made some like 5 minutes ago and I've already eaten 2 plus licked the spoon, I'm an addict and I need PBBA (peanut butter balls anonymous).

On another note: Still haven't seen Harry Potter...I'm bitter.

Day #17 family

today i was told to post a photo of my family so here ya go. lucky dooogs. hahah...errrr ummm....

Day #16 Celebrity

DUH!

hahaha it's national make people uncomfortable day, what better way than to pretend your celebrity crush is Justin Bieber? i just threw up in my mouth a little bit...

ok all kidding aside.......too bad he's not still around to play holden caufield if catcher in the rye is EVER made into a movie...too bad if it is made into a movie now someone like Robert Pattinsen or other such terrible actors will be cast to play Holden.....we're on a first name basis now. I have very strong opinions on this subject I guess, I think they need an unknown actor to play him. and they need to do it right, just because J.D. Salinger has died doesn't mean they can mess with it.
PHEW. sorry about that.

Day #15 don't leave without it

Today's blog is about something I never leave the house without. Well I thought about this and thought I'd say shoes buuut, there was that one time where i left the house and started driving without shoes. Granted it was during the summer so that gives me some excuse right?

if i didn't have my glasses I wouldn't get far, I'd probably end up in Timbucktwo missing 4 teeth and a deviated septum.

Day #14 show

The show that I am most obsessed with would have to be Survivor. There are several others shows out there that I do enjoy (The Office, 30, Community and Sister Wives {don't judge}) but in terms of favorite show, overall I'd have to say Survivor. I've seen every episode of every season, maybe I shouldn't admit that but I have. This season isn't great the people that I've wanted to win have been voted out and the people that I can't stand are thriving (cough NaOnka cough Brenda cough Sash). But that's besides the point, usually I am really happy with the results and who knows, something might turn around this season and surprise me. I would have been 13 during the first season of the show..actually 12. And now I'm old enough (have been for a couple years) to go on the show. There is a casting call coming up...hmmmm.

Day #13 Musician

Today's challenge is to post your favorite musician. That's really tough because there are sooooo many out there. I like too many to claim one as my favorite. I like different artists for different reasons. hmmm
I could say that I have the most Beatles songs on my ipod than any other artist
I could say that I listen to Rob Thomas, Mindy Gledhill, Taylor Swift, Lower Lights and VersaEmerge a lot
Sometimes I get in the mood to listen to Christmas music in June
Sometimes I want to listen to fast funky music
Other times I like listening to more slow/soft music (which as of late is what I've been choosing)
Music is hard for me to pick just one artist. I respect them all (well...relatively speaking).

I also like a lot of unknown youtube or local artists that don't have record deals, Fight the Shun (represent), the Gardiner Sisters, and I can't remember a few other youtube names.

It just has to be good music.

Day #12 Bellingham

Today I'm supposed to post a photo of my town but what's better than a photo? maybe a VIDEO!

To see the uncropped version click here (my blogger layout crops the video sorry)

Day #11 Makeup bag

hahahahHAHAHahahhHAHAHA. Makeup, that's funnnny. Except for Halloween and spirit day at school I have never worn makeup in my LIFE. maybe I should, maybe it would save some people's retinas but seriously I'm too cheap and too uncoordinated to try that stuff. One time a friend tried to put some makeup on me for a mall masquerade for church and I swear she was trying to poke my eye out. So instead I will take you through my "beauty" routine, or lack thereof:

it starts off with this shampoo and conditioner. mmm mmm mm it smells goooood.
then i wash my face with a bar of soap, that is if I even decide to wash my face. a lot of the time I don't bother because I don't like soap/water in my eyes ya heard.

after said shower, I use some neat lotion. Usually it doesn't matter what kind, whatever will do, I'm in no way a lotion snob. This month's flavor is Suave lavender vanilla. Mmm I guess I like lavender.
after i blowdry/straighten my hair I spray a little matrix hairspray in there to keep the flyaways down...usually doesn't help too much though. my hair has it's own mind. I might not be a lotion snob but I do have specific hairspray needs...just saying.

next i dab a little (or a lot) of this d.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s. chapstick alllll over my lips. I love anything spearmint too. I might be a little addicted to it and I might need someone to call Dr. Drew for an intervention.

then last but not least i dab and or spray either of these scents on. now you might think that's a lot of smells going on but the lotion smell never lasts long anyways. my cousin got me a bottle of Chanel No. 5 while I was in Utah, he works at this company that sells that kind of thing for cheaaaaap. it smells so good and it's just the essence of the smell so instead of lasting for an hour or two the scent lasts allll day long. mm mm good.
and that's about it. I through on some clothes and head out the door. pretty exciting.

Day#10 fooood

I have no desire to get on the computer so there won't be any pictures on this post. Today i
Am supposed to post my favorite place to eat. I don't eat out much but when I do I like pad Thai, salad from the olive garden, hot dogs without the bun from Costco, and I also love to eat at work. I work with some grrrreat cooks one in particular makes anything taste amazing and it's always healthy.

I can't believe ive stuck with this blog challenge for this long it's a miracle!

Day #9- last purchase

So besides the Port of Sub's sandwich I bought last week these are my last purchases ;):
my favorite yellow toggle hooded coat from old navy. i LOVE it. only downside is the pockets would have been better as side pockets instead of these square ones. Also would have been nice if it was fully lined, it's a little itchy with short sleeved shirts.

this is technically my LAST purchase, YARN. I just took this photo off the internet but they had a sale on Vanna White yarn which is my favorite stuff to work with so I bought 18 skeins. I only spend $14!! well I guess I had a $25 gift card too ;).

ok I'm SUCH a liar. Why does anyone ever believe me? haha I forgot I stopped at trader joes yesterday. I bought 2 bags of my favorite pecan praline granola, vanilla almond milk, almond meal x2, minestrone soup and whole wheat Lavash bread. Seriously that bread is delicious! it's like a huge slice of flat bread that is great for wraps and sandwiches. I made burritos with them tonight with shredded chicken, beans and cheese (it crisps up real good). YUMMM. I also plan on making some indian curry and using the bread as my utensil. Don't judge.

Day #8- Song

Today's challenge is to post a song to match my mood. That's hard because I'm not much of anything right now haha. SO here is a random mish mash of songs for you to check out:

Jeff Buckley- Hallelujah- this song has been played on my ipod aprox. 248 times

Lower Lights Hymn Revival - thanks Emily for this, I listen to their CD everyday and whenever people get in my car they think I'm nuts just ask Tiana ;) Actually she said she didn't mind them.

Mumford and Sons- Roll Away your Stone- I LOVE them lately. seriously check them ouuuut.

Today's Theme Song
-this has a little story behind it, today I was driving one of our ward's YW home from a sleep over we had for activity and when we got to her house her front door was wide open and nobody was home. We were a little freaked out so we left and ended up calling 911--FIRST TIME EVER. It was pretty intense haha. Everything ended up being ok, nobody had broken in to the house thankfully but she still came over and spent the day at my house. It was pretty funny, us in our pajamas chasing the 2 cop cars down the street and back again trying to get their attention.

Also, any Joaquin Phoenix rap. that is all.

Day #7- wedding

So I have never been married, not sure if anyone could put up with my weird antics ;-) just being honest. haha but if I ever DID get married it would be in a temple and I guess it doesn't matter which temple because they all accomplish the same thing but I especially love the Manti temple in Utah. It's in this small podunk town miles from everything it seems like. but it's always been my favorite even as a kid. here's a picture of it:
it was one of the original temples and is very old looking. seriously it's so pretty. The day before Ty went into the MTC my uncle Andy took us on the hour drive there while everyone else was at school/work. I took A LOT of pictures probably 200 just of this temple i love everything about it. For those who haven't been there they have this huuuuuge hill where they perform programs every year. this isn't the best picture of it but I really liked the sky so there ya go.
also if i DID get married i really like this cake which is a little different and not very wedding-y but maybe that's why i like it. not that i could eat it anyways.
i also like this kind of idea with different cakes not stacked together
and i really enjoy these flowers. just saying.

all these photography blogs i look at have amazing wedding photos so i just went back to a few of my favorites.

Day #6 pets

So today's blog challenge is to post what kind of pet you would love to have. I thought I was going to be soooo clever and say I wanted a liger like in that one movie ;) buuut when I googled it, it's A REAL THING!! FAIL! I thought someone might be playing a trick on me but sure enough it's real:
so I've decided that I would love a real cub liger that would stay a cub foreva. isn't it sooo cute? ahh meow meow i want to pet it!

if a liger isn't an option I would love a black or chocolate lab. preferably one that would stay a puppy forever too, although grown up labs are cool too i just like the look of a puppy. or maybe a huskie would be a cool dog, we used to have one until someone gave it away while i was at school....JERK.

but since neither of the above two animals can stay a puppy forever, i would take a horse too if that's ok. i think horses are the bee's knees, it would be cool to live on a farm or ranch with a few of these things, and maybe a liger running around there too ;D

Sidenote: today is my 200th post! woopdi doooooooooo.

maybe a koala would be a cool pet, or a kangaroo, NO a giraffe!! oh man even better than a horse, a ZEBRA. people have them as pets you know, I could do it too!
