Those Birds are Angry!!

I thought I'd post about a fun (well, hopefully fun) combined mutual activity we are going to have next month. Have you heard of this game called Angry Birds? It's a worldwide phenomenon, who'd have thunk that launching birds at green pigs (?) would catch on so quickly and so completely? I remember Sam telling me about it when it first came out, so I downloaded the free version and played it for about 2 weeks...then decided that the better I got at that game, the worse I got at life {no judgement zone}.

A few weeks ago we had a lesson in church and the lady giving the lesson had some statistics for us. This game has been downloaded 500 MILLION times in less than 2 years...whaaaa?! That's a lot. But that's not the most staggering number. She had it all figured out according to online stats that in ONE hour, 24 YEARS of Angry Birds is played across the world. That means, in ONE DAY, 576 YEARS of this game is being played. Total it's the equivalent of 200,000 YEARS in just under 2 years has been played of this game. If that's not enough to make you delete the app....haha.

But for reals, it's ridiculous. If only that much time had been spent serving, or learning, or solving problems, etc...I can think of many other worthy causes that time could have been spent on, but I digress {again no judgement, it's a good distraction tool for kids and adults alike in situations like lines, flights, long drives, etc...}. The point is, it's pop culture. All the youth at church know what Angry Birds is (whether they play it or not). I found this fun idea online that combines this silly game with a scripture chase. Win win!! We get to play a fun game while learning a little more about the scriptures.

I'll let you read her blog for all the nitty gritty details. They have some downloads for the rules/directions and the scripture chase questions. My 15 yr old brother (who is in the YM's) is excited for it. We have our presidency collecting boxes to create the structures.

Just for a fun reminder and for the youth to invite their friends, I made up this invite:

It was actually really quick to put together and hopefully it will entice the youth to come and bring their friends :) If you feel so inclined, they offer the "angry birds" font, which is really called, 'Feast of Flesh' online for free....I know that's so exciting.

What's more time wasting than playing Angry Birds...? Blogging about Angry Birds....yep. I'll be done.

The Games {Pinterest #8}

Today is Pinterest day. Well I haven't really done many pinteresting things the last couple weeks, far too busy. So instead of a craft or recipe I thought I'd share my Hunger Games Mania!! I had to start an entire board just for HG stuff.....I promise I do have a life....somewhere. But when I see fun Hunger Games stuff, I have to pin it because I'm so super excited for the movie and they are some of my favorite books.

President Snow...

So far all the pictures I've seen from the movie set are pretty close to what I saw in my head while reading :) that makes me happpppy. The boy with the bread.
SPOILER ALERT: If you have not read these books and like to be surprised, don't read the following photo. K?
 Spoiler Alert is OVER Phew.
I LOVE this picture. Also, I totally don't mind that Lenny Kravitz is playing Cinna, that one preview before she shoots up out of the ground makes me so excited.
This soundtrack is going to be really good. I can't wait for it to get released. I already like half the songs on it so I'll be getting it for sure.

28 Days. EEEEKK.

Link to my Hunger Games board.

Maybe next week I'll actually post something productive. I'm getting stuff ready for a big YW activity for next week's mutual. Possibly I'll post about that. Last night we made sushi...HUGE hit. It was a fun skill to learn, tasty too :)

The Civil Wars

I love this band. I found them after listening to the Hunger Games soundtrack. They do that song with Taylor Swift. Well since the guy looks like Johnny Depp and I enjoyed that song I decided to look them up on Spotify. I LOVE THEM!! I don't typically like that countryish music but it's kind of it's own genre (kind of a mix between country, blue grass, roots, rock, etc). I've been listening to it on repeat for awhile now :). This is my most favorite song so far...really it's the one I keep replaying so I'm sure their other stuff is just as good.

In other news, I'm feeling very productive today. I got off work at 6, came home and slept a little longer just because I can. I woke up refreshed and excited for the day. A guy came and fixed our washing machine that hasn't worked for over a week...ya laundry times 5 people...yikes. While I waited for him, I got dinner in the crockpot and the potatoes boiled (BBQ pulled pork and potato salad). After he left I took a jaunt into town (where I'm happy to say I didn't mentally yell at all the Canadians, I think listening to Mindy Gledhill and other calming music has been helping my road rage ;)). Went to the Asian market to pick up sushi makings for our Mutual activity tonight. Made a few stops then came home. I put The Civil Wars on my Spotifiy and looked up recipes to make my own fortune cookies for tonight (might not happen). Now I'm blogging, I have to send off a few emails and start getting stuff ready for next week's Mutual activity. We are making Temple Time Capsules with the girls, with special guest speakers from our stake. It will be good. Today is good.

Life. {& Pinterest #7?}

Sometimes life happens. Sometimes I don't get around to blogging (try to hold back your tears). Sometimes I forget that I 'promised' a Pinterest Thursday. Sometimes real life is more important. Sometimes real life is hard. Sometimes life makes me exhausted. Sometimes I sleep in until 10am because I literally cannot open my eyes any sooner. Sometimes I'm embarrassed about that. But mostly, I'm ok with it. 3 days out of the week I get very broken up sleep at work which is ok, so I shouldn't be ashamed when I have to sleep in a bit.

I think I say this all the time, but this month literally is crazyy. Last month seemed to drag on forever, but this month (last week in particular) there was so much crammed in, I'm ready for a vacation. There's just a lot going on with church all the time, work is pretty much the same as usual 5 shifts a week at the GH with 4 of those shifts happening on 2 days-actually kind of nice, Shelley doesn't have a job so I literally have her every minute of the week that I'm not at the GH. But it's ok, it's good to be busy.

This last weekend we had our YW New Beginnings. I think it was pretty successful, took a lot of time to prepare but it's worth it. We had minimal decorations (score) and lots of fun refreshments, fruit skewers, 2 kinds of cake pops, caramel corn, & chocolate hot air balloon suckers. We had some talks, watched a couple short video clips, we had a balloon release. We had all the people write their testimonies on a quarter sheet of paper then attach them to yellow balloons then went outside to release them. It was dark and rainy but in the end all the balloons floated away. We might do it again in the summer so we can actually watch the balloons ;). All in all it was worth all the time and effort, we have what I believe to be, the best group of young women, ever. :)Just my humble opinion. They all get along great, even though we're all combined in one large group, they make everyone feel welcome no matter what, they try hard to do their best in all their various endeavors, I consider them all to be my good friends. I get sad if I miss a mutual activity (rare) or don't see them on Sunday. They are all awesome.

Anyways that was a little random but that's alright.

So I guess I'll include my Pinterest post for the week here. Kind of cheating but whatever.

This last week my photo was chosen for a contest on the Totally Rad site. They are a company specializing in photoshop actions and products. I own them all. My 'recipe' was posted on their site then they posted it to Pinterest, so super exciting to see people pinning MY picture/recipe on their boards!! Not to toot my own horn, but it has the most repins and likes out of all the other photos/recipes :)
Straight from their site. Hollllla.

This is also from my pinterest board "I'm Hungry for the Games" to compile all my Hunger Games geek-outs I had to make a whole board...ridiculous, I know.
FYI

Here's the video to the song that I have playing on repeat, seriously LOVE it. It's my favorite TSweezy song ever.
The dude totally looks like Johnny Depp :). Also my favorite line is, 'don't you dare look out your window, darling everything's on fire, the war outside our door keeps raging on.' It makes me think of the world we live in, while we don't have a literal war outside our doors here, there are lots of battles being fought by individuals. We should just keep our homes safe and our 'doors' closed to the bad things of the world.

It's kind of a funny story....

We had the missionaries over for dinner again tonight, we usually do Monday night dinners with them to include it in our family night. Well tonight we were sitting around the table (yes! We got a real life table!) and the missionaries asked us which topic we would like them to share a message of. My dad chose enduring to the end. Well I made a comment something to the effect of, I want whatever topic will let you make a tea bag float.

Let me explain

Like 10 years ago we had an object lesson from the missionaries and they lit an empty tea bag on fire and it floated until it burned out. Ever since I've asked every set of missionaries if they know how to do that. So far, no luck...until tonight.

Of course!! We know how to do that. Just grab us a tea bag and lighter. So after searching for a tea bag we finally found a suitable one (has to be a specific kind). For some reason I volunteered to be the one to hold the bag while it was lit, I had to exercise faith that it would fly up.

I had to hold me hand comppletly still so it wouldnt fall off my flat hand. He lit it on fire.

2 seconds later, an ember fell down the column and onto my hand.

Ouch!!

It's ok, keep your hand still, don't move!!

2 seconds later.

Ouch!!

Another ember.

Keep it steady!!

2 more agonizing seconds later, the stupid thing was burned down almost to my hand, it wasn't floating up like it was supposed to.

My hand already hurt so I blew the fire out.

Ash and ember went everywhere.

Ahhhh my suit!!

Ahhhh my new table!!

Why did you blow it out?

Why do you think? It wasn't working.

Ya...I wondered why embers were dropping onto your hand...

You did not endure to the end...

I'm ok with that.

If I know something is bad, or will hurt me, I do not have to listen to the influence of others.

Hmmm off brand tea obviously doesn't work.

Can I have your ice cube please?

Q's

Random blog questions while I'm procrastinating my huge to-do list on this Saturday evening. Such a glamorous life I lead, I know!

01) Are you currently in a serious relationship?
Nope sir ee...unless you count my microwave, I've used that about 242 times tonight to melt chocolate.

02) What was your dream growing up?
I think I wanted to be a librarian. Still wouldn't hate it. Oh I also realllly wanted Samantha Brown's job, remember that travel channel lady?

03) What talent do you wish you had?
I really wish I could sing/play instruments. I can kinda sorta play the violin but haven't for a long time.

04) If I bought you a drink what would it be?
NOT Coconut Water....YUCK haha. Ummm I really love Irish cream milk steamers from Three Trees Cafe. But if I was at a store, I'd like water or grapefruit juice.

05) Favorite vegetable?
Radishes, Carrots, Cucumber, Broccoli, Cauliflower. I really love veggies.

06) What was the last book you read?
The last book I finished was Divergent. Currently I'm reading the new Nicholas Sparks and a book called Shatter Me, both really good. Oh also a book called, Arise and Shine Forth, it's a collection of talks given at the 2000 LDS women's conference.

07) What zodiac sign are you?
Cancer I think...didn't they change this though?

08) Any Tattoos and/or Piercings? Explain where.
Just one earring in each ear. I have to be honest, I do like tattoos but I'd never get one (for belief reasons, and needle aversion reasons)

09) Worst Habit?
Nail Biting. SO DISGUSTING I know.

10) If you saw me walking down the street would you offer me a ride?
Depends on who YOU are...if I knew you I would, but people around here don't walk on the street unless they actually want to...

11) What is your favorite sport?
I love hockey. I don't watch it much but I love the action it provides. The fact that they're allowed to body slam doesn't hurt either.

12) Do you have a Pessimistic or Optimistic attitude?
Both. For some things I tend to be optimistic other things I'm more pessimistic about, it just depends on how much sleep I got that night.

13) What would you do if you were stuck in an elevator with me?
Who are YOU? ahhhh I would probably huddle in a corner and rock back and forth. I DO NOT like small enclosed spaces.

14) Worst thing to ever happen to you?
Being punched in the face (eye) at work once. That sucked big time. I still have issues with it.

15) Tell me one weird fact about you.
Just one? Man. I've only washed my face with soap a handful of times...gross maybe? I recently got a new face cleaning system that I do like but before that, if I used soap it was just whatever happened to be in the shower. I have bought lots of face washes but would only use them once or twice.

16) Do you have any pets?
I have a cat, Neko. He's beast. I used to have lots of fish that all died 2 days after being home, I've had a husky and a pug too.

24) Bottle or can soda?
Don't drink the stuff. Gross.

25) If you won $10,000 today, what would you do with it?
Pay off my car. Buy my family tickets to go pick my brother up from Chile this summer.

I believe in spirits.

29) Favorite thing to do in your spare time?
read, pinterest, photoshop, make to-do lists.

30) Do you swear a lot?
Dang, fetch, oh my heck...depends on how you define swear. I don't use 'real' swear words but I believe that words can have whatever power you give them.

Pinterest Crafting #6

I can't believe I've already done 6 of these Pinterest blogs. I found a really funny site yesterday that posts Pinterest Fails...check it out. It's pretty funny.

Today I'm debating what to post...I've been so busy I can barely keep up the last couple weeks. I was going to post some pictures I took last Thursday but since we're having our New Beginnings for church this weekend I thought I'd post about that!

Our decided theme is Arise and Shine Forth--it's also our 2012 Mutual Theme.

I started by making these invites:
For some reason I just decided that hot air balloons would be a good theme...ahhhh. So that means I bought a hot air balloon chocolate mold (that will hopefully arrive before Sunday) to make some suckers. I spent an entire day paper macheing balloons to make my own hot air balloons, which I cannot figure out how to paint so they probably won't even get used, such a waste of a Saturday and about 5 bottles of glue ;) haha. That's actually the Pinterest part of this, I retaught myself how to paper mache from a Pinterest link.

I also found an idea on Pinterest to make YW Personal Progress Goal cards. I really like how her's turned out, but I knew I wouldn't have time to cut out all those separate colors so I made up my own version that just prints out on 2 8.5x11 pages. We are going to roll them up and wrap them with ribbon for each of the girls to take home.

I just took a screen shot and cropped it for you to see. If for some reason you'd like a copy of the real document, I can email you a .doc or a PDF, just send me an email or comment.

That's it for today. I have so much to do it's not even funny.

P.C. Party

Its official, my pampered chef party is going to be a mix of the two highest voted parties, artisan bread in five minutes, and tuxedo brownies!! Between now and Friday, I'm going to try making a 100% whole wheat artisan bread option, I bought some vital wheat gluten today ;).

I'm feeling like a huuuuuuuuge slacker because I've given out like 2 invites and just used FB to advertise. The lady keeps emailing me telling me to invite more people but I hate to be a bother. I guess it is nice to make it worth her while since she's coming from Mt. Vernon. If you want to come and can come could you let me know? She wants an estimated number. I've had lots of people request catalogs so if you can't make the party, I can get you a catalog or you can order online.

I'm actually getting excited, I don't know why kitchen gadgets make me so happy. Oh we are also going to make microwave potato chips yumm.

Remember it's this Friday the 10th at my house at 7pm. Hope to see you there!!

Pinterest Crafting #5

This post will actually be more like Pinterest baking...or Pinterest microwaving...

A little known (or perhaps well known?) fact about me is I LOVE caramel corn. I've been known to manipulate a mom or two into making me some. I never knew I had the power to make my own, WEIRD. haha I just get too bored standing at the stove, and getting burned from the steam is not very fun. So when I came across this 6 Minute Caramel, I knew I had to try it. Lucky for me, we had all the ingredients so I started posthaste.

The first time I made this, I poured it into an 8x8 dish to cool. It took, f.o.r.e.v.e.r. to set up, and never really did. So I smartened up.

For FHE this week we listened to some talks so I made this 6 minute caramel again (at the request of my brother) but this time, I air popped a batch of popcorn and poured the caramely ooy gooy goodness over the popcorn. It was a huge hit. I didn't even bake it, which makes it a little more sticky but that's alright.

Here's the recipe:

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in microwave safe bowl.
  2. Cook 6 minutes, stirring every two minutes.
  3. Stir and pour into lightly greased dish. (at this point, you should have a bowl of kernel free popcorn waiting and pour it allllll over, then skip all the other steps.)
  4. Let cool.
  5. Cut, wrap in wax paper & store in air tight container.

The next day my brother tried to force me to make him some more...but it's reallllly not an every day treat haha, they'd have to forklift us out of the house if it was.

There was quite a bit of caramel in this batch, I used 1/2 cup of corn kernels. Next time I might do a little more popcorn so it's not quite so covered...although that's part of why it's so good ;)

Here's a link to my baking board. I recently pinned a recipe for a cookie dough dip made from chickpeas, a recipe for coconut milk w/ cocoa whipped together, and a link to how to make your own powdered sugar using sugar substitutes.

Enjoy!

Oh Happy Day.

It's groundhog day.

This holds absolutely zero significance to me since I have no idea what it means. Is it still winter if he sees is shadow? does it turn to summer if he doesn't? And what are we doing leaving this decision up to a poor groundhog? Let's call in the 'experts' whoever they are.

Anyways, this blog is NOT about groundhog day, since I'm very clearly uninformed about what it exactly means.

This is about YOU voting for which Pampered Chef party you'd like to attend!! I'm not a salesperson, couldn't really care less about having these at home parties but I was convinced to have one again. Since I do like the products I conceded. Here are a few of the party ideas, I've gotten a couple FB votes but not enough to make the decision. So even if you're not going to attend, what sounds like the most informative/fun party out of these options?
