Radio Silence

I haven't listened to the radio for several months now. I used to listen to the 'local' (Vancouver, BC) radio station that played top 40 hits, but I listened to the early morning talk show driving home from work. Well the one person that I liked on that show left. Therefore I haven't listened to the radio for a long time. It seems like every time I turn that darn thing on, the music is talking about 'garden tools' and 'body anatomy' and I'm not in to that (use your imagination, oh wait, don't).

I also realized that when I listen to the radio I get reallllllly annoyed while I drive. I'm much more short tempered and my road rage flares up (let's be honest) plus all the commercials make me feel like filling my ears with play-doh.
To remedy this fact, I decided to go old school and break out the CD's (you know those little round discs that make a great frisbee substitute?). I have A LOT of CD's so I started listening to them, by the time I realized it I had pretty much gone through each CD and discarded it. There are two I listen to now, The Lower Lights and Nashville Tribute Band. Both church CD's. So weird, I didn't used to want to listen to just church music. But I'm a nice driver when I do, well for the most part.

On my drive home from work today I switched over to the radio. Sometimes I get really lucky radio listening wise, other times I hit the junk jackpot. Seriously I don't need to know the words to Call me Maybe and the newest Rihanna song. I don't WANT to know the words. I'm not a snob or prude, because I'll tell you what, I will bust a move to pretty much any song (wish I was kidding).

I've been lucky with the radio lately with songs like, While my Guitar Gently Weeps (Beatles), 3AM (Matchbox 20), Brian Wilson (BNL), Walking in Memphis (Mark Cohn), Old Time Rock n' Roll (Bob Segar), Hallelujah (Jeff Buckley), Iris (GooGoo Dolls), Life's Been good to me so far (Joe Walsh), Everybody Talks (Neon Trees), Lights (Ellie Goulding) etc......

These are some of my very favorite songs too!! Man if the radio always played songs like this with no commercials I would totally listen!!

This has been a public service announcement with absolutely no purpose. I seriously have a stack of stuff right next to me that I need to be doing, not writing senseless blogs about radio songs that NOBODY cares about!! ahhhhhh ok.

♫ ♫ ♫ ♫

Someone needs to bar me from youtube asap. I can't manage to get anything done. Mostly listening to my new favorite only1noah and my old favorite the Civil Wars. I love good music, whenever I turn on my playlist I just smile really big. The good thing about music is you can do other stuff while you listen......or so I'm told :) Sorry I keep posting music videos, I just can't help it!! Plus it's my blog and if you don't like it, you can kindly click the back button ;) kidding, kind of.

My favorite Civil Wars song Poison and Wine:

My NEW favorite cover of theirs:
You are my Sunshine. I DIE. Whatever that means, I heard it once and I can't stop saying it despite it's annoying-ness. Plus I have to say it with a silly 'accent' and non-flattering facial expressions so annoying. Whatever just listen to the song, it's great. I try to use delicious as a word to describe music and movies that I like but I realize that's not really a fitting adjective since you don't actually taste those items....I'm just weird. Just close the browser now, I'm just being way too random. I apologize for wasting your time. Here's some music trivia for you. HOLY CRAP THE THUNDER JUST SHOOK MY ENTIRE HOUSE. There might be an invasion of the alien sort happening right now, yiiiiikes. I've never heard or rather felt thunder that loud before.....anyways where was I before I was so rudely interrupted? Oh yes, music trivia.....Who sings I love Rock n' Roll (originally)? . . . . . . .
did you guess The Arrows? Hmmmm chances are you chose Joan Jett, you're wrong, try again. Actually don't because I just told you the answer. I love talking to myself on my blog, on a Friday night. Excellent. How about who sings Black Magic Women (might be one of my favorite songs BTDubs I have NO idea why. I think it goes back to when I had my little blue tape walk man and my dad would make me cassettes with artists like Bob Segar, BTO, Spice Girls, Aerosmith, Def Leopard, etc....I loved that tape.)
If you need a reference to the walkman I'm talking about it was this one but it was baby blue. Same headphones and everything.
oh back to the question, Black Magic Women, who sings it? . . . . . . . . .
Did you guess Santana.....? SORRY wrong. My mind is just being blown with all these cover songs that I never even knew were covers. Fleetwood Mac was the original singer of this song.   I apologize for using the word, BTDubs and any other random musings that seem to go on forever. I have ADD and can't help myself sometimes.

The Civil Wars

I love this band. I found them after listening to the Hunger Games soundtrack. They do that song with Taylor Swift. Well since the guy looks like Johnny Depp and I enjoyed that song I decided to look them up on Spotify. I LOVE THEM!! I don't typically like that countryish music but it's kind of it's own genre (kind of a mix between country, blue grass, roots, rock, etc). I've been listening to it on repeat for awhile now :). This is my most favorite song so far...really it's the one I keep replaying so I'm sure their other stuff is just as good.

In other news, I'm feeling very productive today. I got off work at 6, came home and slept a little longer just because I can. I woke up refreshed and excited for the day. A guy came and fixed our washing machine that hasn't worked for over a week...ya laundry times 5 people...yikes. While I waited for him, I got dinner in the crockpot and the potatoes boiled (BBQ pulled pork and potato salad). After he left I took a jaunt into town (where I'm happy to say I didn't mentally yell at all the Canadians, I think listening to Mindy Gledhill and other calming music has been helping my road rage ;)). Went to the Asian market to pick up sushi makings for our Mutual activity tonight. Made a few stops then came home. I put The Civil Wars on my Spotifiy and looked up recipes to make my own fortune cookies for tonight (might not happen). Now I'm blogging, I have to send off a few emails and start getting stuff ready for next week's Mutual activity. We are making Temple Time Capsules with the girls, with special guest speakers from our stake. It will be good. Today is good.

Life. {& Pinterest #7?}

Sometimes life happens. Sometimes I don't get around to blogging (try to hold back your tears). Sometimes I forget that I 'promised' a Pinterest Thursday. Sometimes real life is more important. Sometimes real life is hard. Sometimes life makes me exhausted. Sometimes I sleep in until 10am because I literally cannot open my eyes any sooner. Sometimes I'm embarrassed about that. But mostly, I'm ok with it. 3 days out of the week I get very broken up sleep at work which is ok, so I shouldn't be ashamed when I have to sleep in a bit.

I think I say this all the time, but this month literally is crazyy. Last month seemed to drag on forever, but this month (last week in particular) there was so much crammed in, I'm ready for a vacation. There's just a lot going on with church all the time, work is pretty much the same as usual 5 shifts a week at the GH with 4 of those shifts happening on 2 days-actually kind of nice, Shelley doesn't have a job so I literally have her every minute of the week that I'm not at the GH. But it's ok, it's good to be busy.

This last weekend we had our YW New Beginnings. I think it was pretty successful, took a lot of time to prepare but it's worth it. We had minimal decorations (score) and lots of fun refreshments, fruit skewers, 2 kinds of cake pops, caramel corn, & chocolate hot air balloon suckers. We had some talks, watched a couple short video clips, we had a balloon release. We had all the people write their testimonies on a quarter sheet of paper then attach them to yellow balloons then went outside to release them. It was dark and rainy but in the end all the balloons floated away. We might do it again in the summer so we can actually watch the balloons ;). All in all it was worth all the time and effort, we have what I believe to be, the best group of young women, ever. :)Just my humble opinion. They all get along great, even though we're all combined in one large group, they make everyone feel welcome no matter what, they try hard to do their best in all their various endeavors, I consider them all to be my good friends. I get sad if I miss a mutual activity (rare) or don't see them on Sunday. They are all awesome.

Anyways that was a little random but that's alright.

So I guess I'll include my Pinterest post for the week here. Kind of cheating but whatever.

This last week my photo was chosen for a contest on the Totally Rad site. They are a company specializing in photoshop actions and products. I own them all. My 'recipe' was posted on their site then they posted it to Pinterest, so super exciting to see people pinning MY picture/recipe on their boards!! Not to toot my own horn, but it has the most repins and likes out of all the other photos/recipes :)
Straight from their site. Hollllla.

This is also from my pinterest board "I'm Hungry for the Games" to compile all my Hunger Games geek-outs I had to make a whole board...ridiculous, I know.
FYI

Here's the video to the song that I have playing on repeat, seriously LOVE it. It's my favorite TSweezy song ever.
The dude totally looks like Johnny Depp :). Also my favorite line is, 'don't you dare look out your window, darling everything's on fire, the war outside our door keeps raging on.' It makes me think of the world we live in, while we don't have a literal war outside our doors here, there are lots of battles being fought by individuals. We should just keep our homes safe and our 'doors' closed to the bad things of the world.

Hallelujah

I am obsessed with Leonard Cohen's song Hallelujah. I have probably even posted about it before. Maybe I've listened to different covers of it 24 times today maybe I'll have it stuck in my head for the next 4 weeks, I'm ok with that. I thought I'd share in the madness so here are my favorite covers:

Kurt Nilsen and others. This video was a big lesson in not judging a book by it's cover....the first part is a little iffy but once that one guy starts singing it's all over. I would never in a million years think that voice could come out of that guy and I feel bad for thinking that but I'm just being honest. I'm thoroughly impressed with him and might have youtubed him and listened to other songs he's done.

Rufus Wainright did a version for Shrek and his version is ok...not my favorite but it's still good

Random Youtubers this is prolly my favorite unknown cover. They are amazing.

Jeff Buckley. duh. THe first cover of this song that I loved and it will always be one of my favorites

another random Youtuber. This lady was the last one I found and I think she has a good voice too. Anywho...

Have fun not watching all those videos haha. I just LOVE this song.
